Increasing Price of SEO Book

Next Friday I am going to raise the price of the SEO Book to $79. Explanation / reasoning in extended post entry if you are interested in that sort of stuff. I will continue to give my ebook away to qualifying charities and also to one winner from each of my weeklyish newsletters.
I am usually all for selling stuff as cheap as possible, but I would like to continue to improve my ebook, and the time I spend reading and compiling data is a large portion of my life. There is a ton of value in that.

By leaving a low price on my ebook it makes some people assume it has a low value, which is absolutely not true. I work a ton to keep that ebook up to date and even go to many of the conferences that sometimes cost thousands of dollars to attend.

I still could improve the grammer in it some and I want to work to make it better and better. I want to keep learning and hopefully be able to pass on better and better knowledge. I could try to continue to sell it for $40 forever, but I do not think the sales will dip that much if I charge more, and if I charge more I will be able to invest more into it.

I also will still give away a free copy of my ebook to qualifying charities and am also giving away a free copy of my ebook in each of my free weeklyish newsletters from now on.

aaron, i have to say that you have really disappointed me with pricing your slim book at this outrageous price. while the book is good this is a clear grab at the whole affiliate revenue bandwagon hype machine.

if you are selling the book through affiliates you need to double the price to feed the affiliates. but the book would have sold itself via the forums without the affiliates if you had left it at the previous price.

you started off with trying to help people and to build a business of your own. the dollar signs whirring in your eyes now are dizzying.

a tip for those who don't feel like dropping $80 for a 200 page basic SEO course. read the blog. follow the the links. you'll be fine.

i bought the book after reading the blog for awhile and wanting to support aaron's generous sharing of information and resources here. at the new price i certainly would not have done so. and i would have been disappointed with the tome had i done so.

in general there are too many affiliate reviews creeping into the SEO Book blog. aaron, your integrity is at risk of serious compromise, as you continue to profiteer off of what are supposed to be balanced reviews.

a word of warning to the neophyte: all of this SEO optimisation stuff is overpriced and overhyped. as aaron once wrote himself, the best tools are free. i highly recommend the cre8yoursite.com forum for consistenly straight talk if the SEO Book blog continues to veer off course.

you don't know me very well.

the basic course is enough to rank on the first page of Google for "seo." I try to make the archives of this site good for those who do not want to pay that kind of money. Also many of the ideas contained in the ebook are also contained for free at Search Marketing Info

I never mentioned anything about balanced anything...just that I was pointing out my opinions and trying to help people. Like the links below to forums...those are free and lead to answers.

Cre8asite is what I think you meant? Black Knight is a great guy...lots of great answers. Lots of other great guys over there. A couple days ago I just revised the SEO forums page of this site with more info on all the SEO forums.

aaron, you got where you are in SEO so quickly due to 2 things:

1. hard work.

2. straight talk.

with the affiliate shenanigans going on in and out of your site, you have seriously compromised your ability to talk straight.

and people should know that. i really admired what you were doing - a real spring cleaning on the SEO cabal - but it appears you have decided to join the country club instead.

your book is overpriced. but then so is most of the drivel in the SEO commercial landscape. as you so ably pointed out at one point when reviewing the other SEO books.

thanks for the correction on the forum name. should have checked the URL. comes up automatically in my browser. i agree about Black Knight. people might also want to check out Nick W. over at threadwatch.org.

I actually have not put any affiliate links in the content of this site in probably over a month...additionally a while ago I took all the affiliate links out of the for sale copy of my ebook.

In the past I did lots of affiliate links in the blog, but it is rather rare now.

your book is overpriced.

When I was selling it at $40 I had way more people tell me it was underpriced than the number of people who wanted a refund.

great site and great guy. I visit the site daily and message with him all the time too.

:D Even for this price, it's very much Worth It!!!

Looks like I bought that bad boy just in time! :-)

grammar, not grammar ;)

Hopefully you'll see sales stay the same, or even increase - with a higher price, people will think it's better ("you get what you pay for" -- which isn't always true).

Whoops - in my comment above, I meant that you spelt it "grammer"

>I meant that you spelt it "grammer"

that is some of the stuff I need to work on ;)

I dunno, just try it and see how sales are. Economics tells you price things based upon demand, so if you can build up enough of a demand for it, you could charge twice that :)

On a side note, I think if you add some marketing or mentioning of how much the book costs verses what a professional seo costs...most of which will do the exact same thing that the book tells people to do..maybe that will help..remember benefits not features :p

Hi, this only increases my desire to buy it, I think, it must be that good if Aaron decides to increase the price.

I will buy it as soon as I finish all my current readings, which includes Jill Whalen's Nitty Gritty, Andrew Goodman's Adwords Report and Nick Usbornes's Net Words.

Regards!
