Hi Aaron, when you mean by "exported result sets" the CSVs with the ranking data: I can open those, still they contain only the data from when I manually started a ranking check, not from the points of time when I wanted a scheduled task to run... Any idea?

Fantastic tool thanks Aaron.
Please could you check google.co.nz, I am not getting any results returned, all showing ,-,
I've already checked for updates but am running latest.

Also would you look at including Yahoo New Zealand in the future?

Rank checker does not produce reports. Is there support for this? I couldn't find it.

those who are not paying need to be exceptionally polite to get any level of suport though...no reason for us to give away our software AND our time to anyone who is rude and/or treats us like dirt.

FF 18.0.2 on Win 7

I've even tried disabling all other plugins but that didn't help.

Hi, Firstly Aaron I would like to say what a fantastic firefox add-on this is! It has cut my time spent in half! however I seem to have one glitch - which I am not sure if its just me or if others have the same issue. I have tried looking back through comments but don't seem to find the issue.

Every so often when I run a report, rank checker appears to freeze. It will get part way through and then just stay there. I have the symbol to say its searching but it just doesn't move on. Is it something I am doing? It only starts to work again, once I have shut down my PC and come back to it at another time. Just wondered if you could through any light on what I might be doing wrong please?

If you check your rank for too many keywords too quickly, Google will block you. You have to go on google.com (or whichever local google you were checking your rank with) and enter the captcha, then SEO rank checker will resume.

Yes, Totally agree with that if you check your ranking for many keywords quickly, Google will block you. Even if you are not able o check your page is cached or not. For that you have to go for displayed page having captcha image, enter that captcha and you are able to check or cached pages after short period of time.

I was trying to check my rank for a .CO domain and the SEO Rank Checker plugin returned results for a .COM domain. Problem is the .COM is #1 so I won't be able to get my rank until I dislodge #1!

I'm guessing it shouldn't be too complicated to fix this bug. Hope to see a fix soon!

Thanks for the plugin, it is saving me a lot of time :)

Hi Aaron,

I have installed and updated this fantastic extension, and everything seems to be working, but I cannot verify the ranking results.

When I scroll over the ranking number and hold CTRL as instructed, there is no link that takes me to the SERP to verify ranking.

And even when I manually go to Google or Yahoo, and scroll threw the SERP for my keywords, I don't find my domain in the results anywhere!

Any ideas?

Hey Aaron,

I own the domain: missunilondon.com. It is on n.4 position on the SERP for "miss uni london" keyword on Google.com

When I use the rank checker it simply doesnt detect any position for "miss uni london".

Im seriously starting to doubt how reliable this tool actually is. Quite disappointed. :(

Hi Aaron,

I've been super pleased with this tool, as it has made life much easier.

I recently started noticing some strange results on my rank checker queries.

The first issue is that the URL which appears as the ranking page is listing a bunch of variables after the trailing slash:

dnlsalvage.com spud barges 5 dnlsalvage.com/spud-barges.html" class="l vst" onmousedown="return rwt(this,'','','','15','AFQjCNFtRySipf5T6HJDIfW-9_LEe3YaOQ','z5eqoIRzaNv6gov36YoKIA','0CHwQFjAO')">Spud Barges | Jack Up Barges | Spud Barge Rental | D&L Salvage

dnlsalvage.com/spud-barges.html - Cached
  • http://bargesandworkboatsforsale.com/barges-for-sale/barges-spud-barge-c...

Also, the tool is not displaying any rankings for some of my keywords, that I have manually verified are ranking in the top 5.

I think this started within the last week or 2, but I can;t be sure.

Have you seen this issue coming up recently?

I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but still no dice.

    Any advice for me?

    Thanks so much!

Hi Aaron - thank you for these excellent tools you've provided! I've been referring people over whenever I can.

Lately though (in the last week or two), the preset ranking data isn't showing any available info in the ranking columns. It shows the domain, keyword and date column (with actual dates and timestamps) but nothing else. I noticed this happened after FF did a recent update to version 4 but not entirely sure that was the reason why. The normal rank checker pulls data and I can see ranking there but any of my past and new presets have suddenly killed off the ranking, indexed URL and engine columns. I tried to uncheck and recheck the search engines, or created a new preset to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Cheers

    gtr101
    May 5, 2011 - 3:29am

Just to clarify in the presets, this happened seemingly after the second update of FF4. It was working fine with the first version of FF4. I see domain, keyword & date/time info. The other columns (engine & url indexed) have disappeared completely. When I run the rank checker, it captures the date/timestamp but nothing else appears when I open up the CSV file.

    May 5, 2011 - 3:41am

the update page has instructions for how to clear out some of the data issues.

    gtr101
    May 5, 2011 - 8:39pm

Thanks Aaron, if I was looking at the update page correctly, i tried the following:
    - removed and reinstalled rank checker, nada (updated the seo toolbar too)
    - optimized the dbase first, nada
    - emptied dbase, nada
I went so far as to delete the rankchecker.sqlite file and created a new preset campaign with sample keywords and that too was showing the same info while missing other columns as previously mentioned. I can only guess the database "table" for those missing columns was lost or corrupted but that's my very amateur guess. it still shows date/timestamps with keywords but no past ranking data. I'm stumped.

gtr101, i'm seeing the same issue with my presets. were you able to find a fix?

    July 2, 2011 - 8:33am

Hi jr202, sorry I missed your post here. When FF5 launched, I updated my browser from FF4 and then updated the latest version of SEO Toolbar 1.1.13 and Rankchecker 1.8.7. My presets now show data again in all of the columns. I never did figure out what the problem was but I know it wasn't just my desktop that had the issue. My laptop also experienced the same problem and they both work fine again. They retained all the data from before the issues started so that was a plus.

    jr202
    July 7, 2011 - 6:14pm

And also kept my historical data.

But I can't seem to get the scheduler to work. It used to work for me but wouldn't work now. I'm still testing different things to make it work but any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

When i use google.com.au to search for "Connect Electricity" for connectnow.com.au it displays it in 5th position, but if i use rankchecker with google set to .com.au, it reports it as 12. I've noticed other tools do the same, since google now groups sites together (eg. all sites from same domain gets merged into a single result).

Is it possible to have an option to get a number as displayed on the website as opposed to pure position? For example i'm interested if the link displays on the homepage and where, rather than if i'm Xth best result for given keyword.

    Cheers,

I'm engaged in academic research using rank checker to determine placement of a website in an area with 48 million pages indexed to a key word. I'd like to be able to set a maximum #, like 1 million, and if that site is not in the top million of those ranked for key words, the search would stop and say "over 1 million" or over 2 million, or whatever threshold I set.

Is there a way to do that now?

Similarly, I don't see a "stop button" that would tell me the results at the time it is stopped, essentially, "RankChecker checked the top 78,400 search results and did not find this website listed yet."

Few, if any, modern search engines let you view deeper than the first 1000 search results for any keyword.

Greetings, I am also encountering the issue of "non exporting of results" to my CSV document, I only get the headers. This seems to be a hit and mix issue, if I continue trying to run a much smaller list, I find on the 3 or 4th try it seems to start allowing the exporting of results...like priming the pump. Other times, I have closed my FF browser and restarted...I have not hit on one specific thing that is consistent...One thing, I noticed that newly added "Keyword group:" and "Updated: " fields don't really indicate to me whether I will be able to export the data or not.
    I am currently on FF5 w/ 1.8.7 of rank checker.....HELP!

Don't know if this will help, but after a number of unsuccessful attempts to get rank checker to export this morning, I finally tried entering 1 entry in the "keyword" field and my domain in the "Domain" field and ran that one query. After getting my result, I attempted to export and sure enough was able to export the data. I then ran about 10 queries using the "Add Multiple Keywords" as a second test and again was able to export the results, I then proceeded on with my tasks without further issues. However, this is not the end all fix....if I quit for a while or start the next day, I have to start over again.....

The latest version of the tool for Firefox 5.0 is not exporting Data. Whenever I export a ranking report, it saves a empty file only with field names. It also does not copy the content from the tool to an excel file manually. I hope you can fix this.

I am also having continuing problems with Bing not posting results.

Has anyone isolated the problem and found a resolution for the intermittent "not exporting any of the reported results" issue or the newest "Bing not reporting results" issue?
Regarding the Intermittent issue, I have had found that if I test with 1 query and am unable to export that result, then hit "clear" a couple of times, and run that single query once again, I am able to export successfully. At this point, I can usually begin running my queries without issue.
I see in the post between Arron and pswpromotion, some resolution regarding the Bing issue must have been offered....can that resolution be posted for others to try?

Thanks to all for the feedback here.

This tool is very handy even though I was not able to export csv. I set the wait time for 4 seconds, and while the tool was running a long list, I was doing some other searches online and Google blocked me for suspicious traffic, I answered the capcha and all was fine. I should probably use smaller batches of keywords with longer than 4 seconds delay. It's a great free tool, better than some I have paid for. Is there a work-around for exporting?

    Aaron,

I used sqlitebrowser 200 b1 to view the data in the sqlite db. I exported the kws_data table as CSV, opened the CSV in Excel, deleted the offending date ranges, saved the CSV, imported it into the sqlite db as kws_data_new, deleted kws_data, and then renamed kws_data_new to kws_data. The db shows the data, but when I open Rank Checker in FireFox, it shows all zeroes across the board. Was my method faulty? Is there another table I need to modify?

    Hello,

I'am having a problem with Rankchecker and the SEO Toolbar.

I changed my computer, still with Windows 7 but I can't even install them anymore.

Firefox says that the version is not compatible with my Firefox version.

I tried different Firefox version but still doens't work.

    Is anybody fixed this?

Your Rank Tracker tool is the greatest. It is very generous of you to provide this freely to us, Thank You!!!
I have 2 domains with 10 keywords each, everything has been working fine, I run Rank Tracker everyday.
Today it stopped working returning only one search for the very first keyword for Google and that is it.
The page just keeps loading. Everything is updated and I did a new install of everything but did not help.
Any advice will be very much appreciated. I am a future customer in waiting.

In most (perhaps not all yet, but certainly most) major markets Yahoo! is powered by Bing or Google. We will likely remove Yahoo! as an option in an upcoming version, as it is largely a parallel of the data from the original search engine technology provider.

I've been using Rank Checker for FireFox successfully for 7 months. Today when I tried to use it, when I press RUN it gets the Google rank for the first word on the list. Then it stalls and won't move forward with Yahoo or Bing for the first word, nor will it rank any other words. I end up having to close the app. I downloaded and reinstalled. I cleared the database. What else can I try?

Hello everyone, longtime reader but first-time writer!

I upgraded to Firefox 5, but the RankChecker icon does not appear automatically in the toolbar even though it's listed in the add-ons page as functioning. I cannot add it manually to the toolbar, either. So, essentially, I cannot figure a way to use it now. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 5, but that did nothing...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there.
I have been using Rank Checker for a year now and was amazed how easy and more importantly how 'free' it is.

Unfortunately over the last month I have seen such a huge decline in accuracy for the search engine results.
Rank Checker is now so inaccurate (often out by 50 positions or more) I now cant trust it and have to check the results manually for my clients which is agonising as I know it worked so well in the past.
I'm not sure if if the panda / farmer updates or other recent algorithm changes have affected the tool but I cant use it anymore.
Anyone else noticed this? Anything I can do to fix it or any updates coming soon?
All my searches for for Google UK, within the UK.
    Thanks

    July 27, 2011 - 1:49pm

We of course have to stay current with data extraction, but haven't changed it beyond then. So the issue is likely on your end. (Either you have personalization turned on or something else like that).

we are seeing the same as 'the law84': Rank Tracker results are very different to actual Google Listings.

Rank Tracker settings are set to not use personalized search results, search Google.co.uk only, country set to UK, database optimized.

Any idea what else we could do to get Rank Tracker accuracy?

    Hello everyone,

My company is tracking our ongoing SEO for a client, and my boss and and I have gotten wildly-different Google rankings in the last few hours for about 200 keywords that all the pages on the site are targeting. At first we thought it was a result of the (poor) client website having duplicate-content and keyword-spamming penalties and issues (that we are addressing), but I see that other people seem to be having issues as well recently...

    Am I the only one?

I am using FireFox 5.0 and Rank Checker 1.8.12 set to Google.com, personalization is off, delay set to 2. I check once a month. Both on 7/14/11 and again today, I ran my list of about 100 keywords. In the Google results, I only got results if the rank was 10 or less (although I did get one result that was 104) . I manually checked all of the keywords that resulted in "-" and most all had results in the 21 to 145 range (A few do still return no results under 200). This problem appears to have just started last month. Could it be related to a recent update?

Also, for Yahoo, this month I only got results for the first 27 keywords and then "-" for all the rest.
I love your Add-on. I sure hope you can fix it.

I was just playing with my Google settings., trying various things, turning on and off Instant and personalized results, 10, 50 100 results per page. Great extension. Thank you very much for creating such a useful utility and then giving it away for free.

One question though. I moved from one computer, to another, and would love to transfer my list in Rank Tracker.

I exported it to a csv file, but am unable to figure out how to import the file in the other computer.

Is there a way to transfer my domain and keyword list from a csv file?

I run Vista with UAC turned off, and recently experienced a well-documented problem where registry permissions were corrupted. In my case it caused Office 2010 to run through configuration every time I started it.

At the same time RankChecker stopped working. With only Google.com checked, after a database optimization, it doesn't return any rankings and just rotates its little marker forever. Does RankChecker use the registry, and if so what keys? I'd like to check that their permissions are right.

This is RankChecker 1.8.13 with Firefox 5.0.1.

Great firefox plugin, thank you SeoBook!
I searched all the feedback threads but couldn't find anyone else with this problem so maybe i'm being dumb, I only just started using it today so I'm sorry if I've missed something obvious.

I made some presets and scheduled 4 tasks (about 50 keywords across 4 sites) to run during my lunch hour. 4 hours later I'm getting the following message when I try to use Rank Checker:
"The Rank Checker scheduler is running. Can't open the main window now".
I'd have thought 4 hours was plenty of time for it to run my rank checks? Is there a way to manually disable the scheduler or reset it or something like that? All Rank Checker menu options (Run, Presets, Options, Scheduled Tasks are returning the same message so I can't use it at all.

    Hi Aaron

I have a continuing problem with the Rank Checker plugin which is awesome by the way!

I can get results back for google and Bing but everytime I search on Yahoo it hangs at the first result. Is there a solution or something causing this problem?

I'm using FF 3.6.22 and my preferences are set to 12 seconds so a fairly large pause between queries. It was working fine up until about 3-4 months ago but now it will not return any Yahoo results even if I specify to use Yahoo only.

Thanks for any support you can offer.

...you can turn Yahoo! off & just use the other 2. In most large global markets Yahoo! has transitioned to Bing. The only exception there is Japan, where Yahoo! is using Google.

Yahoo! still powers their own results in Singapore & the Philippines & maybe a few other Asian countries, but not many.

I had that same problem Stuart, and the only way I could get it to work is to turn off checking Yahoo!. Then Google and Bing worked just fine and it completed my check. I first tried downloading the latest version of Firefox (version 8), then the latest version of the Rank Checker, only to find out that the Rank Checker is incompatible with Firefox 8. It would be nice if there were a page that listed which versions of Firefox the Rank Checker will work with! Maybe there is and I just can't find it. I have used a keyword with my domain name and I get the position of 7 returned by the tool but when I check directly with Google (UK) the domain name is actually in position 3 and 4. I think this might be because of the clustering method used by the tool, with it using 100 results at a time? Or its adding the two positions together?

However the domain name doesnt appear again in the results for quite a while (bottom of page 9 - so position 99?) and I dont see why it cant just tell me what my highest position is within the results - Surely this is the most important figure? At the very least I think you should be able to check a box in the options that forces the tool to return only the highest position.

I am an avid champion of RankChecker, thank Aaron. I have noticed in the past few days that it is timing out due to Google detecting automated requests much more frequently than normal. I usually run checks on 30-50 keywords at a time and can get through these with no problems. Now, the tool seems to be getting hung up after just 5-10 checks and blocked by Google. Anything change with Google that would be causing this to happen?

    doing that should help.

Yes, I tried various intervals and found that the checker was completing a higher percentage of queries at 7 sec+
I was previously at 3 sec, so perhaps Google has tightened the noose on checking for automated scripts a bit. thank you again.

I like the potential of this tool, but I can't get it to work. The 'bulk upload of keywords' will not run the rank check, nor will it save the keywords in the system once the program is closed. When manually adding keywords the tool will process but only reports '-' for results even with keywords that currently rank in the top 10 for our site.

Is rank checker broken? I am using FF 9.01.

    Hi Aaron,

I'm trying to match RankChecker results to manual browser results with some relatively significant inconsistencies (#14 manual check, and #24 in RankChecker results). I've verified these results on other computers in different locations.

I've done everything possible to disable personalized search from my browsers, including using a combination of Yoast's plugin, and 'Incognito Mode' in Chrome and 'Private Browsing' in Firefox. I stay signed out of Google and my cookies are cleared for these searches as well.

I have RankChecker 1.8.18 on Firefox 10.0.2 for Ubuntu

I'm able to use rankchecker to get serp ranking data and save it but how do you get it to add new data from today to yesterday's data and get a cumulative dataset or CSV?

If I save today's data it overwrites yesterdays. But in the screenshot shown on the homepage for the plugin it shows a column for date in csv like this: "domain, keywor, date, google rank, google result URL, etc...."

    how?

    thanks!

    Hi,
Just downloaded rankchecker. I cant get accurate results for keyword rankings - they are skewed towards my browser, not really the true results . Iv'e done everything - erased google history, logged out of google, cleared cookies, checked the "dont use personalized web results" box, downloaded new firefox, etc. Just cant seem to find a keyword ranker that doesnt skew the results towards my browser. To compare it to "clean" results, I look at Google through pagewash or startpage.com.

Ive tried others (cuterank) but always get the same - personalized google results that vastly improve my real rankings.

    Help?

I've been using this awesome tool for just over a year, but I can't
    a) add any more keywords to my list (or a new one) - is there a way to fix this? Using FF11 - tried optimising the database and that made no difference
    b) I can't work out how to schedule the task as the tools menu is missing in FF11

Any help would be much appreciated.

In the mean time I've just been running my old keywords, but I'd love to be able to add more.

    Thanks!

Will you be introducing the option to set the google extension per group? I have domains that I'd like to monitor the results for, but some groups need to check a different international version of Google to others and it would be great to have this option.

If I manually run the checker data appears.. Does anyone has any clue? File permissions? free-member? too much presets? Please reply, looking forward,

Hi, I LOVE RankTracker and I used it regularly for many months and always got great results! Thanks for such a great free tool, and I'm sorry free users were jerks and gave you a hard time about your great free tool!

As of about a month ago RankTracker quit giving me ANY Google results. I have confirmed with the Google SE page that I DO have rank, even when I am not logged in to google and don't have personalized results checked.

I am upgraded to the latest RankChecker as of minutes ago and am using Firefox 11.0. I have tried not using my saved searches and instead entering new searches into RankTracker. Same results: just "-" where numbers should be.

I checked manually on google and I can't show you a jpg but this is copied from Google using SEOBook:

"Costa Rica Real Estate - Property For Sale Near San Ramon, Costa ...
    ranchosilencio.com/about.htm
Costa Rica Real Estate For Sale By Owner - Ocean View Lots, For Sale In San Ramon, Costa Rica, At Rancho Silencio.
    #5 | PR: 1 | Google Cache Date: ? | Traffic Value: 0 | Age: | del.icio.us: - | del.icio.us Page Bookmarks: - | "

As you can see I have #5 for the keyword "san ramon costa rica property". But it never shows up nor do any others for google for any of my web sites, I just checked.

What could possibly be causing this??? I looked for an answer on your site and didn't find anything under "rank check doesn't show google results" or "No google results" etc. Yes, it works fine for Bing and Yahoo.

Again, this always worked for google before and only recently quit working, about 2 months ago.

@seosoldier (and others with the same problem) if u are just getting '-' for rank position and u know u should be ranking, check to make sure u havent blocked googles javascript (google.com/gstatic.com) with something like the noscript plugin, i had the exact same problem and eventually after trial and error found that the rankchecker plugin does not get any results for google if google javascript is blocked in the main browser. hope it helps u out :)

@aaron thanks for the great plugin, just 1 quick query, whenever i have the rank checker window open it increases FF (versions 8~12) cpu usage significantly, even when it is not checking ranks and just open and idle in the background, any ideas what causes it?

I've been using Rank Checker for several years and LOVE it. However, with the recent Panda and Penguin updates, people are saying that automated checking of SERP rankings have to be done by an authorized tool. Is Rank Checker an authorized tool in the eyes of Google? Or will using it affect my SERPs in any way? Thanks!

    June 9, 2012 - 11:35pm

...and if you got hit by BOTH Penguin and Panda you are likely doing many things wrong.

It is always easier to blame others than to objectively evaluate one's own work though.

Also noticed the deflection from the above ... the "people are saying" people were never identified. Based on your willingness to cast blame on others, make stuff up & not objectively evaluate your own work, I would say you likely deserved to get penalized.

You probably needed to do your objective deep dive on the guidelines BEFORE you got penalized twice.

    Lesson learned. Hopefully!

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks for all the work you guys put in to Rank Checker. It's a great tool that I've grown to rely on. I've noticed a big difference lately in the results I'm getting vs. doing a manual search of Google, Yahoo, and Bing. So has one of my clients. RC gives a rank result of 45 and the actual results done using google directly and via a proxy service (to totally circumvent any personalization) is 12 on a test keyword. This kind of disparity happens on all keywords I've been testing. The sites are actually doing much better than RC indicates. I've cleared all history, cookies, etc and reinstalled the SEOBook toolbar and RC as well to try to debug why I might be getting differing results. Any thoughts or suggestions about this? Running FF 14.0.1. Thanks!

...if one pulls 100 results at a time & 30 of them are trip advisor, a #12 can appear as #45

    HI Aaron,
First off your tool rocks! I was wondering if when checking ranking it is looking for the rank of any page on the site or simply the home page. Also will I get different results if I enter the site with or without the www if 301 redirects have not been implemented.

Aaron and the rest of the staff. I cannot thank you enough for creating and updating this tool. It's a tool I've used since it's been introduced to both learn and maintain SEO for a number of businesses. The Rank Checker Add on has played a key role in this and I can't express my thanks to all of you.

As I said before, I've never had any issue using the tool since I started in 2009. Within the last few days, the tracking for Google has stopped working. I've tried it on multiple computers and different IP addresses. I've deleted and reinstalled in.

I know you all are incredibly busy. If you let me know if there's some sort of issue on my end or if there's an issue with the tool, I'd appreciate it. If you've decided to make a paid version, I'd be interested too.

Thanks again for creating and supporting this product! I look forward to an update.

Maybe I'm not doing something right or there's a glitch, but I can't seem to get this to work with YouTube videos. Does this work with videos? Is it supposed to?

When I enter a YouTube URL and a KW, nothing happens. But it works for standard URLs, so I don't think it's an issue with Rank Tracker but with YouTube URLs. No? Yes? Please advise.

These days, tracking video in Google search results is very, very important. If this isn't a feature in your software yet, please consider adding it. I'm still looking for a good solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Thought I'd found it but no joy. :-(

Even with several seconds put into this setting we get blocked by the search engines when we are tracking lists of more that 15 keywords. Yahoo is the worst about this, with Google coming in a close second.

I have found that goosing up the setting to about 12 or 13 seconds delay helps. But its much slower to use. Running as a background process is good though.

Would it be possible that this coutesy setting could have a slight randomization function, say something like plus or minus 2 or 3 seconds relative to the target setting, in order to more closely create a human activity immulation of sorts?

Also, any thoughs about how to automate the rank checking process, includins saving and exporting the results?

    Thanks!

Let me begin by saying that Rank Checker is a great tool and i use it frequently. I have seldom ran into any issues, but yestereday i noticed that my site was ranking on page 1 for keywords: 'Diving, Scuba and Scuba Dive'. If this were true, i'd be asking for a raise, but i do not believe it to be so.
What i believe is happening, is that Rank Checker is returning local map resutls. This is true for searches in my local area, but outside the area, our site would show up.
In Rank Checker Settings, i 'checked' the "Dont use personalized results", but it still returns local resutls. How do i get the true global rank stats?

Hi Aaron, Amazing product! However, as of late, every time I clicked on the link to run Rank Checker, the window displaying the page has expanded bit by bit. It has now expanded to the point where the borders of the page extend past the viewing size of my monitor. It is now to the point where I can no longer see the bar at the time nor the 'Start' and 'Export to CSV' buttons at the bottom. Indeed, all I see now is a competetly white screen rendering Rank Checker inaccessible and useless. The problem started a few days ago wheh I noticed that when the window came up, it blotted out my Windows 7 task bar at the bottom. I removed it and re-installed and made sure I had the most up to date Firefox - it is still displaying the white screen.

    What now?

    Thank you.

It works far better than all the other expensive version I have bought. Please remove the 100 keyword limit! Or create a paid version that removes the 100 keyword limit to unlimted. Thanks for the great tool!!

Thanks for the encouraging feedback. We were glad to see the kind comment in what has usually historically been a sea of complaints.

When I start to add multiple keyword it only saves the first one, I have tried a few different thinsg, even added individual, but it never saves more than one keywords...

Help, I love this tool and want to use it again!

... is we can't provide both free software and free 1 on 1 support. In the past we have provided support to people who have donated to a charity like CharityWater as a way of both helping a good cause and adding some friction to ensure the people on the other end valued our time. Lately though we've been a bit swamped for the past few weeks to a month or so, upgrading various pieces of this site, other sites, and such.

Same as this last comment by chrisberthon here: sometimes it doesn't even save one kayword, even without using the multiple keywords panel.
There's no other tool like this, so please fix it!

    Hi there,

First off, this is a great tool and saves me so much time! I can get straight to playing around with variables instead of wasting an hour or so getting the results first.

One issue I have is to do with spellings and Google suggesting search results. I'm based in the UK and we spell words like "moulded" with a "u". However, if I put this in, Google automatically gives me results for "molded"
and I have to click the option see my "moulded" results. This happens if I'm on google.com or google.co.uk.

This is translating into the Rank Checker and so some of my searches always return nill. Is there any way to force the checker to search the terms I've entered instead of polling Google's first set of results.

Still think this is great tool, this is just one wrinkle I have.

    Thanks,
    Matt

... if they reinterpret the search query for you, then that is also what they do to the typical search user. Few users will click on the "did you mean" link (& if enough people were clicking on that link, then Google would stop mutating/reinterpreting the search query on their end).

You could wrap your keyword in quotes to tell Google to search precisely for a keyword (e.g. "moulded"), but that is something most of the broader search audience will not do (and doesn't even known how to do). So you really need to try to rank your site for whatever version Google is preferencing & perhaps try to rank it for both, such that if the preference turns you are still ranking for the other version.

    Greetings,

i've been using the rank tracker tool for quite a while now, with great success.
However during a fresh install today, i've found that i can't add any scheduled tasks. When i click on the dropdown list, there isn't anything to select. I do have a preset ready, which i've used on manual tracking.
I'm using FireFox 34.0.5 with the latest download of the extention.

Like the previous poster (wouterio) when i click on the dropdown list, it's empty - but i have saved two keyword lists. Running FF35.0 current version of extension.
I'd also like to say thanks for this free tool! I've been a member for years but returned here to track a small campaign that some sites would like to charge $99 a month to do!

    Hello Aaron,
I'm using Rank Checker since years now. I don't use it often but quiet regularly. I'm sure once I had no problem with search in Yahoo but some time ago I noticed that every saved keyword set for a couple of domain names (three indeed: two for my country and one for "global" search) fail in Yahoo. At first I thought I was banned and I had to wait some time but I was never been able to retrieve data for Yahoo! Have I been banned forever?!
    Thank you

    June 5, 2015 - 6:07pm

1.) If you read the download page it offers usage advice & tips on not getting blocked.
2.) In addition to the above, there is a significant overlap in organic results between Bing & Yahoo!, so if you are struggling to pull data from Yahoo! you can deselect it & rely on Bing to be a generally/roughly representative sample/baseline.
3.) If #1 and #2 don't work for you, then you can pay for a hosted rank checking service.

I applied 5 seconds for delay since long time but... I just noticed that one site for which I don't get results in Yahoo, also get no results for Bing! For the second site I get results for Bing but not for Yahoo. Just for the third there's no more issues. Isn't it quite strage?

BTW, can you suggest an affordable hosted rank checking service? I only need this functionality and not for more than those three sites.

    Thank you!

...services like AWR Cloud, Authority Labs & Rankinity.

And Advanced Web Ranking also has a self-hosted version which can be scheduled.

I should also mention you can dial up the delay between search queries on our rank checker & set it to be automatically run via a daily or weekly scheduled update or such.

    Hi,

It appears that Firefox now required add-on signing for all Addons. RankTracker doesn't have it yet so it can't be used with the new version of Firefox.

I thought you should know :)

    Cheers

    Hey Aaron,
this might be a stupid question...
but did you at some point have an owl logo?
i had FF rank checker and i don't remember where i got from, but it was just like this one but it had an owl logo...
had to reinstall windows and lost everything... loved the checker i had, but this one looks just like it...
except for the logo. want to make sure it is the same one...
    thanks man!

    September 9, 2016 - 4:38am

...we do have an owl logo version which was meant to be the update to the current version. We created a couple different versions. One has more advanced features, but we were torn on launching it for fear of making the software too complex leading to a bunch of daily support request emails. Also Mozilla Firefox has done so many updates to their code that trying to keep up with all their changes has been quite overwhelming.

Ultimately they lost a ton of browser share over the years due to issues with memory leaks AND because they did not bundle Adobe Flash in their browser, so quite often when Adobe Flash would have security updates that would come with a negative option bundle of Google Chrome & set Chrome as the user's default web browser.

Now Firefox is trying to catch up with Chrome by following it & ultimately that isn't going to work too well.

Eventually we might need to stop offering our extensions or port them to a more stable web browser.

I think Microsoft Edge doesn't yet support toolbars, but when it does we might look at seeing how developing an IE extension goes.

There is a zero percent chance of me launching an SEO extension for Google Chrome though. I'd rather shut our site down than support their spyware.

At the moment I see a lot of "-" when using this tool even if the page rank for my domain/keyword is obviously under 200. My guess is that i'm kicked out of google very quickly (after the 3rd or 4th query). Would it be possible to have a specific message in that case instead of "-"?
Also, i've tried to setup the delay between query to 10sec but i'm still being kicked out pretty quickly. Is there any other reason why that would happen? At the moment i can't use the tool properly which is frustrating since it looks like a very useful tool.

    Hi,

I've loved and used your rank checker tool every day for years, but Firefox constantly disables the plugin. I ended up deleting it to try and download it again and now I'm unable to download it. It says it will install after I restart Firefox, but then when it restarts it's no longer listed under the add-ons. Usually, I would just use these steps to restore the add-on: http://www.seobook.com/restoring-firefox-extensions, but for some reason this time I decided to remove it and re-install and now I'm unable to. I would greatly appreciate your help! I'm so grateful that you've created this free tool and I would love to continue to use it. Thank you!

We just edited the site's flow so users can download the 3 popular extensions without requiring logging in. Hope that helps.

Can I use Google match types in Rank Checker?

    February 3, 2017 - 1:15pm

...when people mention the term match types it refers to ad matching formats for paid search platforms like Bing Ads & Google AdWords. Those would be broad match, modified broad match, phrase match, exact match, negative match & embedded match.

Most people who search on Google are utterly unaware of how to do advanced boolean search queries. Wrapping a keyword in quotes can indicate it is wanted precisely, but very few end users of search engines do that. In fact, so few searchers use advanced boolean search queries that when Google launched Google+ they altered how advanced search operators worked to co-opt using the + sign to promote their terrible also-ran social network which was rarely used by anyone other than Google employees & SEOs.

...should be coming in the next couple days. if you want to use the extension immediately you can install the extension on another web browser that uses the old Firefox code base like Comodo IceDragon

There isnt any extension available like this and it wont work on IceDragon anymore PLEASE GET IT WORKING AGAIN!!

    September 20, 2018 - 10:21pm

Actually after running it one time it google actually blocked my ip address. I had to go through steps to prove I am not a machine to get access back. You guys have to know that. You need to update this site and pull this tool. Make you look bad especially for an seo company.

any idea why it stopped pulling results for google? I use google.co.sa to check rankings for my 3 sites. clear cashe, cookies, all cleared and use cyberghost for proxies, only last 2 days has it stopped working, any ideas?

...Google recently updated their result set to where we need to update the software.

I am sort of torn between updating it and recommending other solutions like Serposcope.

We no longer run a membership site & Firefox changed their extension architecture quite a bit, so it is tough keeping up with the Google changes when I don't have a revenue engine tied to the cost of re-engineering the extensions.

Last time Serposcope broke they were pretty quick to fix it & I made sure I donated to them right away as a thank you.

    Hello,
is there a way to add more than 100 Keywords in a bulk?
    Thanks.

    January 29, 2021 - 10:08am

I would suggest using Serposcope or something similar or an online third party hosted provider if you want to do hundreds of keywords.
