Are You Going to WMW Las Vegas Pubcon?
I think the Las Vegas Pubcon from November 14 to November 17 is probably going to be the SEO event of the year.
Here is my top 18 reasons to attend...
- At $489 (currently), conference passes are exceptionally affordable.
- If you are cheap (as I am), Las Vegas is a cheap city to travel to. Many of the hotels cost like $30 a night if you book them with your flight. Circus Circus anyone?
- Caveman will be there. He will be mad at me for listing that last item, and thus I will correct my stance by offering up the next item.
- If you like a sweet suite there are numerous 5 star hotels. Bellagio anyone?
- Danny Sullivan will keynote, which means a chance to meet Danny AND there will probably be even more crossover between the SES and WMW crowds.
- Last year one of my friends won over $25,000 playing blackjack.
- Sweetest session ever!
- It is warm there.
- Many of my friends are going to an SEO conference for the first time, including John, Giovanna, and some of the Andy Hagans posse.
- I think my recent diet has been going better than Andy's, I weigh less now, and I will use the opportunity to gloat. If I can get below 200 lbs., Andy will be forced to eat haggis.
- Werty will be eating Kobe style beef. He intends to try his best to experience a full on meat coma.
- I get to speak on a panel with Rand.
- I will get to meet many other friends I haven't seen in a while.
- Travel within Las Vegas is easy via the monorail.
- I have lots of new cartoon t-shirts to wear.
- Related to last item, Joe Morin will likely host at least one clothing intervention :)
- With so much spam marketing covering the streets of Vegas Matt will have his guard and spam sensors de-tuned.
- Cirque du Soleil...rumor has it, Werty has a surprise guest appearance in the show this year.
Other preparation notes: if you wear white sneakers expect to get bounced by the bouncers! Some of them hate shorts too.

I will be there too, Aaron, I am flying in for a day and a half and flying out. I hope to meet you and Rand, god knows I use your tools enough to at least hunt you down and shake your hands. I will be on the SEO 101 panel and would love some feedback if you have the time to peek your head in!

I will be there. This will be my second pubcon. They great time and the people I met at the last one in Boston make this a no brainer. That and the fact I have yet to go to Vegas. Should be a great time!
I don't know anyone and work alone, should I still consider attending?
I like people, but just have not attended any of these conferences. Seems like a newcomer might be stuck around the periphery.

If I never attended any conferences I wouldn't be doing as well as I am now (socially, physically, mentally, financially).
I always like meeting new people, and many of us webmasters are sorta outliers, so when we get together we sorta click well I think. It is always worth meeting people.
hey Aaron, I will be there, I got everything booked and set up. Let me know which ones I can find you at so I can take a pic with you and just thank you for all your advice and help. Also which seminars do you suggest going to for a more advanced person when it comes to SEO? The reason I ask is that I was at the SES NYC this year and went to some seminars that were less then impressive and was very dissapointed. There were some like Eric Ward and a few others that were really good, but was wondering which ones you would not miss. Thanks,

I like the site reviews with the search engineers on it. Those are always really fun.
Not sure how many of the speeches I will hear though because I am going to be hanging out with so many friends at the conference.

Yep, I'd recommend jeans and black dress shoes if you expect to get into any of the clubs.

- yeah - looking forward to Vegas - this will be great fun again and I'm staying there Saturday - Saturday which will mean A LOT of time for Heli tours, some nice shows (have seen 4 last year) and definately some hidden euro-style food (yes: ask me - I know one italian that has REAL salad...) ... that should be just right for your diet if you want to keep it
Did you do the Grand Canyon flights or boat trips?

I managed convincing my boss sending me to PubCon !
But turned out that I’m the only person from my firm being sent there, and I’m shy to say that I never attended such event before, only I don’t know anyone so I don’t know exactly what’s the score… seems to me that everybody there knows everybody, and I wouldn’t know how to network…

also dont be afraid to just talk to strangers and get in the mix. just a few years ago I was brand new stranger guy who knew nobody and people have been exceptionally kind to me.

Seems good enough reasons for going there...
However, it's not enough for my boss... I really whant to go there, but he's not convinced it's worth the money (anyone said cheep ?) and so I need some good stiff reasons to convince him... I was wondering if anyone can help me with that...

Without knowing anything about your boss it is hard to know how to appeal to him. I suspect you are going to have to figure out ways to drive his motivations in a way that you would know better than us. All I can stress is to somehow stress value and how much money he can make.

I go to Vega every year to gamble. One time I put 10 cents in a penny machine their and out came $60,000!!!

I know SES had one (roughly 8 months ago I think), but it was focused on the hispanic market, and I am not sure if they are going to hold it every year. If Danny Sullivan leaves that conference odds are many of the smaller shows may die off (and maybe the big ones too, depending on what Danny decides to do next).
