Microsoft AdCenter Affiliate Ad

I put a Microsoft AdCenter affiliate ad in the sidebar of the blog.

I generally do not like putting too many ads on this site, but...

  • their traffic converts well because it is such a clean source (no dirty clickfarm syndication partners)
  • I recently fell in love with Microsoft's Ad Intelligence tool. If you have not tried it yet I urge you to try it. This post and this video offer a review of some of the features
  • $50 in free clicks is a great offer for search marketers who have yet to try Microsoft's ad platform
  • I think the web is healthier if Google has some competition, and Yahoo no longer attempts to compete

Are you against affiliate ads? Have you tried AdCenter or the Ad Intelligence tool yet?

Im' not really against affilliate ads, it helps supplement income etc...
On another note the microsoft adcentre tool is ace. I use that and the wordtracker one on this site and have done since overture is dying long an slowly (its like russian roulette will it work today or not!). If the affilliate is providing an ace service or offer something of value then I see no harm it!

Take it easy - David

I do agree Google needs some competition and have heard good words about MSN Adcenter. I have tried Adwords only 2 times both with disastrous results (maybe just my squeeze sucked). So maybe MSN will be next to try

I don't mind affiliate ads at all. You always have to ask if the recommendation is an honest one or if it's being made solely for the money, but you've more than earned my trust over the years that I'll see an ad as an honest recommendation. It's not as though the site is littered with ads.

One thing about this ad that I don't like it the animation. I realize the movement is meant to draw my eye to the ad, but it also means my eye is drawn away from the content. If there's a static ad I know I'd like it better.

no problem with relevant, useful ads - heck this even offers a free credit and is much more useful than the Adcenter promotional videos Microsoft created.

I agree. Competition is the key for online marketers to have other options.
