Thanks for free tools and and add-ons to Firefox. I've learned more here in 1 hour than in an all day workshop that I attended last week. This is great site Aaron. I'm a technology consultant and I need to expand skills to improve firm's website and blog. Maybe I will be able to add these skills to consulting practice.

I'm a business owner with w programmer husband who keeps saying I can learn everything I need to know and not hire people for simple stuff. Hmmm..... Well, here is my first stab at trying to lean how to do keyword research. Thanks for the Tools so far, and can't wait to get started!

May 24, 2011 - 7:42am

I think with SEO it is good to have some knowledge of the process. There is a saying that you can't hire a good programmer unless you are a programmer or already know a good programmer. I think to some degree that sort of belief can be true with a lot of marketing disciplines as well.

I have already gained much knowledge since signing up. I launched our website less than six months ago and have been evaluating the best way and most affordable way to increase our exposure. Being a System Analyst I think I'm realizing that the best answer is to gain as much knowledge as possible and then determine what areas to get assistance. I look forward to learning from these resources.

Hi. I'm just new to SEO, at least for the bigger picture of it. This website looks like the perfect place to learn from, as I can't really afford a SEO course. I look forward to learning SEO at 360 degrees. :)

Always a good idea to get your feet wet before diving in Robocity. We've had quite a few members, myself included, who started doing/learning SEO here part-time while still working during the day (or night) to pay the bills and invest in SEO knowledge. It's a time-consuming way to start out but it's the best way because it can help keep you out of debt and isn't all that bad if some of your early attempts don't do so well :)

Hi All :)

My name's Mike, 23 year's old from Australia. I started my quest a few years ago to start an online business but gave up. Am hoping to restart this quest again and hope to learn a lot of useful ways to help achieve that goal through this site :)

Many thanks for the tools so far!

with all things being equal, you basically want to succeed more than you fail. It's usually a game of singles and doubles, an occasional homerun, and an occasional strikeout that makes up a portfolio of your business model. The key is to learn from the mistakes, realizing there will always be mistakes, but also to learn from the successes and at some point the success should consistently outpace the failures.

Generally I would recommend gathering a solid understanding of SEO yourself so you can be better prepared to hire a company that knows what it is doing. If you know most of the basics you'll be able to weed out the scammy providers from the knowledgable ones.

Hi! I'm Tasman, a web developer from Sydney, Australia.

The penny dropped a few years back: what's the point of building great sites unless they have lots of visitors? I started to study and apply SEO back then.

I'm here to continue to deepen my SEO skills!

When I'm not designing or coding, I'm writing about web development at Smart Web Developer or about Macs at Mac Crazy.

Aaron, thanks for great tools. I've been using SEO for Firefox for a year and I'm ... addicted to it. :-)

we try our best to be quite comprehensive & with how fast search changes + how search is tying into so many other parts of the web (and even society) there is never a lack of things to cover. the hard part is keeping up with it all and predicting where it will go next. But a bit stress and numerous challenges are better than being consumed with boredom! :)

hi phwhitley :) glad you like rank checker, since FF 7 is a beta release it isn't fully supported yet. If you are on FF to receive their latest developer builds (aurora's and beta's) then you will see some issues with extension compatibility. I'd suggest going back to the latest public release (6) if you want to utilize the tool.

Just signed up. Hi from Perth, Western Australia, thanks to the SEOBook team and good luck everyone with your SEO. I'm itching to check out the tools. I've been in and out of IT for over 30yrs, since the late 70's programming cobol (yeah punched cards), pascal, DEC10 assembler, basic (when it was basic :-), etc., ahh them were the days. Love learning new stuff, but if anyone wants a bit of historical perspective or local perspective (Perth) please drop me a line.

September 4, 2011 - 12:48pm

...I remember in high school I took Pascal & Basic programming classes. Sometimes my teacher would come over and say "well that won't work" and then I would run the program and she would say "wow, I'm surprised that worked." :)

Hi SEO Book.com people! Just want to say thanks to the SEO tips you have been sending to me. Although my head is spinning from all those new stuffs (you see I`m just a newbie), I can still grasp the concept you are talking about. Takes a while before they penetrate into the deepest part of my grey matters and get processed so that I can understand. Hahaha....again, thanks you guys!

Hi everyone, Reggie here. This is my first time doing SEO so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I wonder if the tools here work as well for google japan and yahoo japan? I doing SEO in Japan, and it seems the keyword suggest tool doesn't work on Japanese characters. Also, is it possible for the rank checker tool to display results from google.co.jp and yahoo.co.jp? I'll read the tips here and see if I can apply them in Japan. Thanks again

Hi everyone,

I'm new here.
SEO is mean experiment too. The main rule is no rules forever! :)
In fact any advice is balanced with the very own experiences.
Common sens is the first rule.
I want also to give not only to take from this site.
But more we speak about SEO then SEO will change it self.
Because top 10 is always for ten people - ten sites!!
And the score of a site still remain the same if the site is not changed.
Worst, the score site can decrease.

So, the tips of the day for you is: keep in your mind (also on site) the first sentence after body tag!

Best whises,
Eugen

Hi People : )
I'm a work from home mother of 4 Virtual Assistant/Internet Marketer and just loving all these new tools, gadgets and gizmo's. As a previous Lecturer in Computing Business (end user) with a passion for technology, I've been glued to the computer for literally 18 hrs a day. Its so nice that my kids are grown and they are computer geeks aswell in some form or another. Thanks for the tools so far! Just one little request Aaron, I loved the introductory video's on the tools, very helpful, but is it at all possible to have a follow up video with more information or details on the SEOBOOK toolbar buttons and SEO 4 Firefox? Expansion on these utuilities would be fantastic. If there is already followup explanatory tutorials somewhere, my apologies as I haven't seen them as yet. Thanks again !

I think we could & should create more video content soon.

I'm Tom, a small business owner from the UK looking to implement SEO in-house to increase exposure over the coming months. I am keen to get to grips with SEO and to learn best practices and white hat methods from the beginning, to start as I mean to go on.

Thank you very much for the free tools. It's great that there are video tutorials to go with them. Whilst video tutorials aren't always appropriate for all types of information, in the past I have always found them very useful when getting to grips fast with new concepts and getting good with more complex software.

I am looking forward to a thorough understanding of SEO and I am really enjoying the 7 day course, but at this rate it may end up being the one day course!

I hope I can contribute in the forums and help others also,
Thank you for the excellent SEO resources.

Hello SEO People.
Been online since 1999 - vaious websites - all based on same stem name. Do not have much of a problem ranking on first page for most anything I wish to publish.... However!!!! I seem to be rubbish at monetizing! I'm one of the people, (the many?), who are banned from Google Adsense (2007) because some nerd clicked on an ad 48 times in a few minutes on my fifth day after publishing. Google's response; "You provide a serious threat to our Adwords subscribers". Despite numerous emails...still banned. Even wrote to Sergey, but was ignored. (Incidentally, I recommended in that letter they get a 'G Phone', [Google Phone], to enable them to tie-in their ad subscribers to text messages and GPS....Guess who just bought Motorola?)

Well, it's nice to be here and I am looking forward to interacting with anyone who wishes to.

I'm in the UK
Cheers,
Ian

My name is Dean and I've been on this site since 2008. Due to busy schedule at work, left and right deadlines - I have only registered today. That's pretty crazy, right? Though, it's better late than never and I'm still looking forward to having great time here. I've heard loads of good feedback about this site and I can't wait to explore it myself.

I think Aaron is teaching us all a lesson right here (engage with your customers!), hopefully everyone is paying attention... I am a micropreneur and owner/co-founder of a 6 y.o. website for educators and have been focusing on SEO for the last 3 years. I had not invested sufficient energy into link building over time, so trying to make up for it after experiencing a rather unpleasant rank drop last year. I live and breathe link building (+ some social sprinkles) these days and strongly suspect I maxed out on free/inexpensive ways to do it. Oh, and I paid Yahoo $299 for express (7-day they say) review back in March and my status is STILL pending, wha?

June 4, 2012 - 7:01pm

...you might want to call or email them, because they typically respond far faster than that & the renewal date is 365 days from the date of submission.

Did you search the public-facing part of the Yahoo! Directory to see if you are listed yet?

Hi everybody
The SEO site looks awesome - at present am not able to enrol in SEO but down the track a bit it looks like very impressive training.
Aaron - a special thank you - for allowing me to become a free member and have access to the available downloads - have you had any experience with Webfire ?
I have the same philosophy as you and I certainly hope that I progress enough to join SEO later on

June 9, 2012 - 2:27am

thanks for signing up, but no I have not had any experience with the company or service you mentioned.

June 7, 2012 - 4:12pm

Yes Aaron, I check the directory and the status every couple of weeks. There is a status page available to check on the order and it has been "Pending" for 2 months now (while they take payment for a 7-day review, unbelievable). I don't believe there is a phone # for customer service, one I called directed to go online. I will try to email.
Are you saying none of your clients report this issue? I had googled up a few more cases.
p.s. I think I am going to start my own directory site, seems like a good business model :-)

June 9, 2012 - 2:29am

...any issues I have heard of have generally been more related to category placement or anchor text rather than sites not being listed. But even these issues are typically relatively minor.

Hi all -

Just joined a few minutes ago.

A bit about me:

A former SEO, was in the business for a number of years BEFORE there was software to implement for SEO and so I did everything by hand. Ran my own telecommunications company and did some SEO consulting work on the side. (My former guarantee: "Earn six times your investment or your money completely refunded!" Never had to provide a refund.

Closed telecommunications company, did other jobs, and now working for a software company that needs SEO desperately. Am at least 10 years out of the game, need to start fresh again.

Cheers from California

Hi, Aaron, everyone.
My core strength is writing but, as the shift in SEO moves more towards content than ever and me being keen to make sure that my content follows best practises, I've been inexplicably drawn into the world of SEO.

I've had some great teachers about content, but now I find the people I'm writing for see me as some sort of SEO guru - and I so not.

Rather than disappoint them and miss out on the chance of expanding my repertoire and reputation, I'm diving in with both feet.

They're size 11s, so watch SEOBook - don't let me squish yer!

Look forward to learning and giving back in whatever way I can.
See you around, no doubt,
Jason Darrell/Zebedeerox. xxx
