Our New Search Engine Rank Checking Tool Has Been Updated

The Rank Checker developer told me he just completed our first major update on the extension. From his email...

  • added international character support
  • fixed query time saving error in options window
  • added status icon (right click on the icon to see the whole menu)
  • fixed linux issues
  • changed doubleclick behavior (if you want to go to SE results on windows, hold CTRL key and click on the url; on mac hold META key and click on the url), because double click causes some errors on mac os.
  • fixed export to CSV
  • fixed result scraping when domain has sitelinks
  • added dragable columns
  • fixed domain.net vs domain.net.au issue

What else do we still need to fix/do?

Thanks Aaron!!!

To upgrade shall we delete the current plug-in and reinstall?

Is there a way to keep the current list of 20 domains and all the keywords I added?

I hope we can support up to 100 domain/keyword pairs in the upgrade.

What else is nice?

1)Import config data from XLS file - this will allow us to have our own fields defined against each domain/keyword pair. i.e. import, run export, then join to other data.
2) Output the top 30 ranked sites on each of the 3 SEs for each keyword.
3)Allow definition of a Preferred Landing Page in the config file and check rank and on that also.
4) Timestamp on every row of output

If you provide this data we can do all kinds of interesting adds to it.

Thanks!!

Hi Aaron,

I'm sorry to inform you, that the ranking of the google.at search engine is not true.

In my case: If I search for "Goldankauf Wien" under "google.at", I'm on the 6th position but you tool says 16th position. Same with other keywords.

Is this a bug of the tool?

Thanks a lot.

Aaron,
This tool looks great. Couple questions for you. Do you foresee in the future the possibilities of having:

- Digitalpoint like graph to show history of your rankings..etc progress over time?
- Track a daily change, weekly change, and monthly change?

April 7, 2008 - 5:10am

That second feature is already baked in.

The first feature can be created from the Excel export...not sure if we will create that directly in the tool as well...I would like to be able to, but need to talk to the developer about that.

We will look to add that within the next major update or two.

Excellent upgrade.

Any chance that the dragable columns could remember where they were dragged to between sessions of running RankChecker?

I have to redo mine everytime I run it.

Top tool Aaron.

Cheers

Thanks Aaron.

Not sure if you added supported for > 20 Domains or not, but after upgrading it still seems to be limited to 20 Domains.

Any workaround for this?

Great job on this tool Aaron! It is so user friendly, and will be a great addition to my and other SEO's collection.

I would love to see the ability to store and check more than 20 keywords at a time (maybe 100 or 150?). It would be great to check more of our extensive keyword list.

Again, nice job and keep up the awesome work!

Hi Aaron, thank you very much for the new plugin. It is very nice and very helpful. Just a few minutes and it is clear how valuable this is. Thanks again!

Aaron, just to let you know...

I can't add keywords. This has been pretty much useless for me. Is anyone else having problems with this tool?

April 9, 2008 - 5:17pm

maybe try to uninstall it and reinstall it and see if that helps you.

Aaron,

The plugin looks great. Sorry to be off topic, but I couldn't find a contact email, etc...

I've just launched a similar service at http://www.searchrascal.com. The main differences being (1) it's not right in your browser (2) it shows other results and rankings and (3) it tracks them over time.

I would love to get your feedback on it.

Thanks a bunch.

Hello Aaron,

Occasionally I am getting an odd result for a keyword I know my client is ranking for. Instead of displaying 1 or whatever the position is it will show 'Undefined'. Can you give me an idea of what this is and why it happens?

Also, for those of you who want to search more than 20 results at a time; this can be done with a few modifications to the Overlay.js file within the /content/ folder of Rankchecker.jar file.

If anyone wants or needs help changing this before it is included within the next upgrade or two (if it is) then contact me at info at 10minutes dot org.

Hi John
I am not sure why the undefined list thing happened.

Can you give tips on how to change the overlay.js?

Hello again Aaron,

I just spent give or take 30 minutes inputing roughly 100 keywords. This would have been a piece of cake except there are 50 websites therefore two keywords per client basically.

It occurred to me that I have no way to transport this to my laptop or to my home office computer or anywhere. My time spent adding my clients primary two keywords will have to be done for every computer I use this plug-in at. Any plans on a solution around this area in the future?

Also, I am exporting this to CSV which is then read by another document. My ranking file is organized by length of services with my long term clients at the top. Occasionally I am assigned an existing client that I have to put somewhere in the middle of my file instead of at the very bottom. This could potentially screw up the translation of the CSV this tool provides.

My question is ... can you create something that allows us to move a row up and down the list?

Thanks again!

Hi John
I do not have a plan for re-porting the plugin across computers at this point yet.

Can check into moving keywords.

really great tool! thanks!

a question. i'm returning results just fine for yahoo and live, but nothing from google. i just get dashes in the results column.

i'm on FireFox 2.0.0.13 on Mac OS 10.5.2

jaredh123
April 10, 2008 - 3:30pm

just checked on WinXP using FF 2.0.0.13 - still no results from google at all...

hmmm...

April 10, 2008 - 6:27pm

Dashes are meant to indicate the site is not in the top 200 results.

jaredh123
April 10, 2008 - 7:13pm

Aaron, thanks for responding. The thing is, I only get dashes even when querying multiple keywords that all rank very highly in google. when searching manually, i can find top 20 google rankings for almost all the terms which are returning dashes.

Hi Aaron.

We are trying to add a new url in the Rank Checker, but it seems that it is too long.

Some of our landing pages have a long url.

I'd like to know if there is any solution.

Thanks a lot.

Mikel

April 15, 2008 - 9:39pm

You do not need to put the landing page URL in there...just the core site URL / domain name. :)

Thanks Aaron. I've just tried it and it's perfect.

Just another question: is it possible to rank Google's international sites, such as google.es (Spain), google.fr (France), ...

Thanks a lot

Mikel

April 16, 2008 - 11:20am

Hi Mikel
Right click on it and click on the options panel. From there you can select google.fr, google.es, etc. But you can only select 2 at a time.

This is a really excellent, convenient, and handy tool.
My only complaint is that you are limited to 20 keywords/keyphrases. Are there plans for a more robust version?

OK, this might sound petty, but it made me laugh when I opened the plugin to see it proudly pronouncing that I was using "RONK CHECKER"

The Logo (as cool as it looks) really doesn't fit into the word "Rank" as the letter "a" :D

Anyway, it works like a charm now (with the .co.za TLD)

A GREAT tool!

How about sorting by keyword by clicking the title "keyword"? would be helpful.

I use Rank Checker on google.co.il. Hebrew does not show on the exported CSV file.

It would be helpful if you would enable copying by right clicking on a keyword or line.

Being able to maximize the application window would be good too.

I hope you find this helpful,

Thanks,

Hi all. Im on XP FF 2.0.0.20 and all my Rank Checker functions are suddenly not responding.

Any ideas? I upgraded the plugin (1.75) but no result, also disabled all other plugins. The plugin looks af is it is running but there is no respons to selecting any of the menu items.

Would love any suggestions and ideas if any one has experienced this issue ... Thanks
