Google AdWords Adds Languages

Dec 19th

In an email from Google I was told "Google AdSense is excited to announce the introduction of expanded language support for AdSense publishers. This expansion includes dedicated email support and account pages in French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. New applications for the AdSense program may be submitted in any of these five languages or in English, and AdSense ad code can be placed on pages with content in any of these languages, provided that those pages comply with our program policies and Terms and Conditions."

Google News Which is Wrong

Dec 19th

Many people are saying completely incorrect things...bonkers I say!!! Jennifer Laycock (the About search webguide)explains why some of these people are nuts.

One of the largest purposes of the recent Google algorithm change was to stop the sales of PageRank. I just read issue #49 of AllBusinessNews which was titled "Buying & Selling Google PageRank Too Good to be True?"

Some of this information is entirely incorrect. For example "Google only indexes approximately 750-1000 words to a page. If your link is at the bottom of a lengthy page...it's not likely going to be indexed or affect your PageRank at all."

I do not understand how people get published writing small articles with some information in it that is so blatently wrong.

Free Keyword Placement Tool

Dec 18th

Its not a new keyword tool, but I figure I should point out good things here and there to make my blog have different news than "every other SEO blog."

While server logs are one of the best ways to verify top placement you can also check your keyword placement using tools such as the one provided by Digital Point.

It requires the use of a free Google API license code, but is efficient for checking keyword ranking changes of a bunch of sites/pages quickly.

I Search Discussion List

Dec 17th

By far and away this is my favorite discussion list on the web. I believe it is against the terms of service for me to post stuff from the list, but I hope it is ok to post my own post.

Andrew Goodman (I search moderator) is one of my favorite people in the search engine marketing field, and last week he had a compelling 2,800 word post about the recent Google algorithm shift. I find Marketing Wonk has good stuff every day. If you would like you can subscribe to I search for less than $10 a month.
Here was my response to his amazing post:
I got thinking about it, and Google is actually better in my own eyes for the change they made. I have been playing on the web less than a year and I was already up to #6 for "search engine marketing."

I know a decent amount, but there are tons more people who have seen major shifts in the past, with tons more experience. Any company that relies on a third party to decide the fate of their own best interests is not positioning itself correctly.

In that statement I am talking about how

1.) It was extremely easy to manipulate Google
2.) Google now relies on DMOZ
3.) some people hire SEO firms who rely exclusively on Google

Many people leave themselves completely ignorant to the internet where there are communities that would eat up their knowledge if they just shared a bit of it. My own website was not getting a ton of traffic, but as I lost one of my best key words my traffic actually went up. I wrote articles about the change to the Google algorithm as I learned about it. I got tons of feedback and got to help a bunch of people.

The internet makes testing very easy. It also made making profits and laziness very easy. In the end it just depends on which sandwich we choose to throw in

Search and Destroy

Dec 16th

Time recently came out with a new article called Search And Destroy which I did not enjoy.

In my eyes it was apparent the writers knew nothing about search. Listed are a couple quotes which show what I am talking about.

"Should they be allowed to push the websites of their own businesses to the top of the stack? Could a search engine suppress the website of a political party with which its CEO disagreed?"

If it was know that this was happening people would quit using the search engine. Politics are frequently fed by greedy companies who can afford to waste money anyway...as noted on this very site yesterday. The largest drug companies have already started to control ads anyway.

"But when the competition gets stiff and Page has to answer to his shareholders, integrity may be a luxury Google can no longer afford."

I certainly think it will be hard to balance, but there is no way that going public will imediately cause them to loose all of their business ideals which made them a success.

More on the Google Florida Update

Dec 16th

Another interesting article by Gord Hotchkiss.

I think his articles, the one from Barry Loyyd, and Danny Sullivan's resource center are resting as the answer for what has happened.

Another couple good entries about the subject are done by Da' Tmeister and Andrew Goodman. Beyond those articles most of the activity has came from within the SEO forums. I must state that I have the utmost of respect for Danny Sullivan as he was one of the first people who linked into my article.

Most of the other people in the SEO field ignored the existence of my early article with the exception of the dubious website that had a generic article with an extremely similar name to my article...
Today many SEO websites still have dissatisfied customers and are now producing third rate rehash articles only citing a few of the above sources.
