Why Site Level Search is Bad for Small Sites

Mar 31st

My Site Level Search
My other site uses Atomz to power it's site level search. On smaller websites people usually fail when they place something in a search box. To illistrate how randomly people search consider the some of the following random searches which all were performed multiple times last week on my other search engine website.

Last Week's Random Site Level Searches
[ blank query ]
adult galleries
grindstone lakes
how long a person can stay wihtout food
marry rich

I could guess that some of those searches might have been performed by some automated bot, but some were probably performed by people. Certainly those random searches did not find what they wanted on my site, and likely others shared the same fate. It is better to guide a person to performing the task you want while they are engaged in the active window vice give them the oportunity to stray to randomness via a search box.
